Yesterday’s topic at PMI Silicon Valley Tools and Techniques Forum, co-hosted by PMI Silicon Valley and SDForum: Managing Customer Expectations with metric based Software Cost Estimating. Fun!

I am currently preparing for the Project Management Professional (PMP) exam. Over the last three years or so, I have been following discussions around this topic with much interest: What good a certification is it? In the end, who really benefits from it the most? Here are another few good thoughts on PMI, the PMBoK and the PMP in general, the problem with exam prep services like Rita Mulcahy’s and the like, and some of the implications of the upcoming changes in PMP exam rules and regulations.
Another project management organization that I am aware of — more Europe-based, though — is the International Project Management Association (IPMA). Their certification process is quite different from PMI’s as it comprises four levels and may involve third-party interview assessment (instead of multiple choice tests only).
